The talc mineral is founded in the metamorphic rocks of convergent plate boundaries. It is referred to both the type of minerals that is pure mineral along with the talc containing minerals that are soft in texture. The talc is found in the rocks when heated water comes in direct contact with the silica and magnesium with the dolomite marbles. The heat and chemically active fluids of unite and serpentine form the best of talc powder.

From the ancient time, talc is used for making sculptures, bowls, countertops, sinks and other objects because of its soft rock properties. As talc is naturally produced out of minerals, thus it is used for making rubber, paper, ceramics and plastic. The chemical composition of talc is referred to as hydrous magnesium silicate mineral.

Talcum Powder is of no color, thus it is referred to as the colorless mineral. Also, it has a sheet structure that is similar to that of the micas. While extraction of the talc, the miners remain highly cautious during the whole procedure so as to avoid the mixing of talc with other rock materials. If any contamination occurs in the hard particles of talc, then it can later result in degradation of the softness lubricating property of talc. The partially crushed rocks are then taken into the mills where they are further broken down into dust or powder form.

Below are some of the uses of talc minerals:

The talc serves with some of the unique properties of brightness, composition and softness that are used in a number of applications. Such applications where talc plays a lead role are:

  • Talc is most commonly used in manufacturing of the ceramic products like bathroom fixtures, ceramic tile, pottery and dinnerware. With the help of talc, firing attributes is enhanced and durability of the finished products is increased.
  • Talc is also used for manufacturing the paper which is composed of the pulp that is derived from wood, rags, and other organic materials. Talc is added in the pulp which acts as filler. Also, it results in making the paper much smoother. It further improves the brightness, whiteness and opacity of paper.
  • Due to its softness property, talc is widely used for making the cosmetic products that includes blushes, compact powder, eye shadows and other items. Also, talc has the property of absorbing moisture, thus it is used for making many antiperspirants.
